About Lake Kivu
Lake Kivu dominates the border of Rwanda and Congo in the western branch of east African rift the Albertine. the Lake covers an area o 1040sqmeters and 4790ft above sea level.it empties its waters into Ruzizi river which flows south into Lake Tanganyika.
Lake Kivu is Rwanda’s largest water body and it covers half of Rwanda’s western border with many tourist attractions, there is no better place to conclude a safari than relaxing along the shores of lake Kivu. The lake is safe as it has no crocodiles, hippos neither bilharzia making it suitable for swimming.
After your breakfast your English speaking driver/guide will pick you at 7:00am from your hotel in Kigali town and drive you to lake Kivu located in Gisenyi, it will take you 3hrs to arrive.
Upon arrival you will have a boat ride and visit the local fishing villages then come back for lunch. After lunch you can relax by the beach read a book or even go swimming in the lake. Later evening retire to your lodge/hotel for overnight and dinner.
After your breakfast, you will be driven to Iby’Iwacu cultural village located in Musanza district at 7:00am, (2hrs 58mins) drive.
Here you will discover the traditional house of a local king, watch an authentic medicine man prepare herbal mixtures, try your hand at bow and arrow shooting or enjoy cultural dances and drumming performance by the local people from the area. You will then be driven to Kigali city(22mins) to your hotel for lunch then to the airport.
