Lake Kivu is a fresh water lake that lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift valley, the western branch of the East African Rift. Lake Kivu drains into the Ruzizi River which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika. Lake Kivu is approximately 90 km long and 50 km at its width. Whereby its irregular shape makes measuring its accurate surface area difficult.
It has been estimated that the lake covers a total surface area of some 2,700 km2 The lake has a maximum depth of 475 m and a mean depth of 220 m, making it the world’s eighteenth deepest lake by maximum depth, and the ninth deepest by mean depth. From Kigali to

The regal kivu spreads over the western coast curving along the southern part of Rwanda, providing a calm and relaxing place to gaze into the daily sunset.
