Canopy is one of the activities that everyone should try out on,it is located in the oldest forest in Rwanda. The drive from Kigali is 4 hours, whereas the drive back from the park normally lasts 5 hours due to the traffic.
The Nyungwe rainforest has survived the ice age and is one of the oldest rainforests in East Africa, extending up to Burundi. The canopy trail starts at the Uwinka reception, and it has different times that you can decide to trek,8 am, 10 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. Each of these treks takes 1:30 hours to trek and come back to the reception.
as you start the trek is quiet easy as you will be going down the hill with minor climbing and then when you reach the canopy, the first walk is easy to walk although the second walkway is a bit long,its fun too because its 70 meters high .you will get to see the top of the trees if your lucky, you might see colubus monkeys and some birds as well because Nyungwe is home to 300 birds species and different tree species.
