Overview
Nyungwe national park is located in the southwest corner of Rwanda, Nyungwe Forest National Park is a vast untouched tropical rain-forest with a high, dense canopy.it is more known for the chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk, the chimpanzee trekking is so different from the mountain gorilla experience, unlike the mountain gorillas, the chimps are moving constantly around and at high speeds, jumping from tree to tree making noise. You will get to observe them so closely going about their own lives and see the human like features and behavior that makes them our closest relatives with 98.7% DNA
Detailed tour
3:00 pm: Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe national park – Duration: 4hrs
The actual trek starts at 5:00 am & 7:00 am therefore, you should be at the park headquarters for briefing by 4:00 am.You will be picked up by your driver/guide in the afternoon from your home/hotel and then transferred to Nyungwe national park,as you drive to Nyungwe you will see and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Rwanda. You will have an overnight in Nyungwe in order to get up early for the chimpanzee trekking. accommodation at your choice of hotel or lodge.
4:30 am: Briefing
Early in the morning after your breakfast, you will be driven to the RDB offices in Nyungwe forest where you will have a short briefing and be allocated a guide who will lead you for the day. We shall then drive for 1 hr and a half to the starting point at cyamudongo where you will have another briefing with your guide and start the trek at 8:00 am for 2 hrs 30 mins round trip.
5:30 am: Trekking, Lunch and transfer to Kigali
The hiking will take about 2 to 3 hours until you find the chimpanzees, when you actually find the chimpanzees, you are assigned with an hour with them and take as many pictures as you wish,during your hike your guide will give you information about the chimpanzee and why the exist in this part of the forest. Later-on you will embark back to the starting point,the walking stick will help you in sloping down.when you reach your starting point,you can opt to eat your parked lunch as you watch the cultural dancers as they perform for you the Rwandan cultural dance.After your 30 mins rest,we shall get on the road back to Kigali at 12:00 pm for another 5 hours drive.
